day 13: childhood memory

Its funny sometimes how events or circumstances link up at the same time. While minor, I can't help but get a little chuckle with this one. The day I read the challenge for day 13 was just after I had focused on a quilt my Ganny had at her house while I was growing up.

Every time I visited her, she'd make me teriyaki chicken, macaroni and cheese, peas, and ice cream for dessert.

A HUGE bowl of ice cream.

Nearly every kid's dream...except it was so much ice cream I could never finish.

Something else we ALWAYS did when I visited my grandparents was to play the game memory. You know the one I'm talking about, right? The little square cardboard cards with pictures on it. Mine just happened to be mommy and baby animals. I distinctly remember the yellow, fuzzy baby duck and the cute little baby gray elephant.

While playing round after round of memory, I would always curl up in this quilt.

Always.

Now I'm amazed at how small it seems.

But now my sweet little girl cuddles up with it and sleeps soundly underneath...which is why I've had such a hard time getting a picture of it. So today, I snagged one with her help. It's the green one sitting on top of one of her many other quilts. That one (the white, yellow, and red) just happens to be one that her Amma (my mom) made.

As a side note, the kiddo is turning into a quilt sleeper (much like her mommy) and requests to specifically have a quilt rather than any other cotton blanket. I guess its a good thing we come from a family of quilters.

Now for a little shout out to those who have decided to join me on this little challenge. You can find more info about the challenge here.

  1. Yes, but does she sleep under many at one time like her Mommy used to do? Love the stories!

  2. Haha...just read this to the husband and his response? "Used to?" Sigh...nope, still do it and he gets to endure it as well. :) Oh, and yes, the kiddo is currently sleeping under 2 quilts as I'm typing this.

  3. Haha..my kiddos would melt under two blankets/quilts in our 100 degree weather. Funny that you still do that, though!
