about me

While my heart may long for Colorado, I'm learning that I have to adapt and "bloom where God has planted me" as a wife to someone in the military. After having lived on the east coast for our longest stint yet (3 1/2 years), we brought out the moving supplies and had our craziest and longest move last summer. We actually managed to sell our house despite the odds and trekked more than 5,000 miles (via air for me and the kiddo and pavement for my love and the pups) and settled to our new home in Alaska. We're thankful to have had at least a small taste of non-winter before the snow started to fall as it now looks like nothing but white.

I say “good-bye” and “welcome home” to my love more than I care for. I can mow the yard, paint a room, and fire up the grill with ease. I’ve learned that I’m strong and capable of almost anything, but that its still nice to have friends and family to lean on.

I thank God every day for the man he brought into my life. I love how we met on a church retreat when he tripped over me during the night. I love how he was persistent in dating me. I love how he takes the time to listen to me, make me feel special, cherished, and valued. He is truly my best friend, my love.

Every day I take joy in the privilege and blessing that God has granted me in being the mother to my precious 3 year old daughter. She makes me laugh, she keeps me young, and she teaches me new things about the world and myself every day even though I’m the one trying to teach her. Its a tough job sometimes, but I so wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I love to create. I always have and suspect I always will. I grew up in a family of quilters and cooks. I remember starting countless quilts with both my grandmothers and doing crafts with my mom and my Grammy. My dad even shared his creative outlet with a little bit of drafting, putting his carpentry skills to work, and most especially with his love of gardening. All of this has influenced me. Whether it be an interior space, a landscaping area, food on a plate, toys for my kiddo, a wreath, a furniture re-do, anything really. I find when I’m inspired, I'm creative and in my happy place.

On just about any given day, you’ll find me in a pair of jeans with flip flops or my maryjane crocs. Okay, so maybe not so much right now with all this snow. Instead I've discovered a few new shoes. One such shoe bears the nickname of "Alaskan Stiletto" which is my new pair of Danskos. Super comfy and super cute and super important, its waterproof which is a must here. I've also got a snazzy pair of cute snow boots which I wear all.the.time right now since we're apparently going through a pretty unusual and much snowier than normal winter. I've also added thermals and snow pants to my list of normal clothing.

So that’s me in a nutshell. Okay, so maybe not all of me, but a part. :)
