Thunderbird Falls

We have yet to have a "lazy" weekend here since our arrival here in Alaska. We still have unpacking to do.  In fact, we've got some serious unpacking to finish up with a rapidly shrinking window of time before the snow starts to fall...which is why we're focusing on that this weekend rather than doing some of the other things that have been tempting us.  Last weekend we opted for "fun" and went out on our first hike here in Alaska.

Check it out, we went for a hike to Thunderbird Falls which was not even a 15 minute drive from us.  Seriously, we're surrounded by so much amazing-ness and a ton of it is right outside our doorstep!!!

I'm a bit disappointed with the quality of some of these pictures, but they're fun none-the-less.

Kiddo took control of the camera and gave me a laugh with this one.  She has now moved on to a new level in photography skills and now has intent on what she wants to take a picture of.
Thunderbird Falls!
Can you guess what this is?  I'll give you a big hint...we're in bear country...and there's no denying it.  This little pleasantry was right smack dab in the middle of the trail which really put me on edge.  I was quite thankful we had our can of bear spray within easy grabbing distance.

On the lower portion of the trail checking out the waterfall. The kiddo is entranced by it and wouldn't tear her eyes away from it to take a picture.

Overall, the hike was super easy (a mile out) and beautiful.  It was a great quick hike to do in the morning leaving our afternoon wide open for a little downtime before heading over to a new friend's house for dinner and reuniting with some old friends.  Good times.

I intend on giving a little house tour once we're a little more settled--but really, I may need a few suggestions and like someone else said, the house is a work in progress anyway.  So maybe I'll restart by saying, "once I get a little more time, I'll have to take a few pics of the house to show it to you."  :)

  1. Beautiful! My dad just told me a bear spray joke that was pretty funny - remind me to tell you later!
