colorado summer vacation: part 1

Time has simply escaped me this summer, but looking back on it, I'm okay with that, because we thoroughly enjoyed our summer.

We played outside--a ton.  We planted, we dug, we harvested in my parents' garden.  We helped build a fence.  We went to the zoo, the fair, the shooting range, parks, etc.  We had very little tv time since my parents don't have cable/satellite and since we were so busy working and playing outside during the day and playing shang-hi at night, it left very little time to really pay attention to the blog.  I'm okay with that too, because like I said, we had a great summer vacation in Colorado in our transition from moving from the east coast to Alaska.  But for what I lacked in Internet time, I did not with my camera and still took t a ton of pictures.  So despite being a little out of date, at least I am finally getting around to posting these pictures!

Sweet P's very first visit to the zoo, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, which still holds as my number 1 choice of zoos.  She loved watching me feed the giraffe...too uncertain to do it herself.  Oh, and in case you're wondering, the giraffes have been put on a diet and are now fed lettuce by the visitors.

Mr. Goofy Giraffe asking for more grub.

The kiddo got to pet a baby wallabi.  Not so shy to pet this little guy.

Now we're at the fair and I love the expression on the kiddo's face.  It's kinda like, "You want me to touch THAT?  Really, milk comes from THAT?"
But she did it!  Well, at least tried to.

First amusement park type of ride ever and can I just say she is totally hooked?  We went to the Alaska State Fair last weekend and of course we did a few rides and she even did a ride by herself!  She didn't even look back, she just went and got on and had a blast.  Wow, she's really growing up fast, huh?

Went fishing for trout.  Not kidding...this is a tank full of real fish just swimming around and the kiddo caught one.  It was a pretty fun little fair thing and even better is that it was free!

Kiddo got a ribbon for catching a fish.  She was pretty proud of herself.

This is just a pic of a pig.  I was having fun with my camera.

And a goat.  Still having fun playing with my camera.

Probably my favorite animal picture of the day of this goat.  Just something about his eyes and ears makes me smile every time I see it.
Photobucket
A cow.  Bet you didn't know that one, huh?  ;o)

Went to Garden of the Gods and truly discovered how much the kiddo loves sticks.  She did the classic walking down the path while dragging a stick behind her.  She also referred to all the big rock formations as "castle rocks!"  She's really into princesses and having watched Tangled this summer, its easy to see the association.  I also found it funny that a few people walking behind us referred to the kiddo as Rapunzzel too because of her hair.

A pic of SweetP and me enjoying the heat of a summer morning in Colorado.  Maybe a little "Embracing the Camera" action.
So that's the first bit of our summer vacation in Colorado.  Next up...Aspen!
