The weather: Cloudy, overcast, and rainy-ish. But not in a gloomy way. Actually its kinda nice and despite today's weather, we're still going to the state fair this afternoon. The temps are supposed to get up into the mid 60's, which is totally making me feel like its fall. I suppose considering where we are, the trees changing colors, the temps, etc, determine that it feels and looks like fall better than the calendar determining such.
Outside my window: I have so many windows to look out of sitting in the living room and I see views of the mountains, green lush trees and forest, and thin gray clouds. Yesterday the clouds were thick and heavy and were cascading down the mountains which was flat out stunning especially when the sun was also shining down highlighting the green and yellow leaves on the trees, the blue mountains, and the purple-y gray clouds. Next time I have an opportunity to take a picture of it, I will.
I am thinking: That I'm hungry and should probably figure out breakfast pretty soon.
I am thankful for: 1) having the opportunity to live here in Alaska. I never thought I'd actually ever visit here let alone LIVE here, 2) to finally be done with the moving from the east coast to here process. Now we're in the mode of getting settled and making a life for ourselves here.
From the kitchen: Still getting things situated in the kitchen. Our pantry (which is about 1/2 the size of our old one) needs more food along with our fridge. Today marks two weeks from when we got our household goods and mom and dad just headed back home a few days ago. Why is that important? Because my mom was busy cooking for us while we worked on getting the house situated. It was awesome. Oh, and our dishwasher leaves much to be desired. Honestly, I'm not sure how I'm going to live with this ridiculous box that claims to be a kitchen appliance.
I am wearing: my pajamas, gray flannel pants (yup, while all my family and friends are sweating it out in the "lower 48") and black tank top (that's to remind myself that its still summer in honor of those aforementioned family and friends sweating it out).
On my "to do" list: Go to the State Fair, commissary (to work on stocking that pantry and fridge I mentioned earlier), and maybe a little bit of unpacking. We're still working on clearing out our garage so we can park our cars in it when the snow comes next month. Hard to see the work we're accomplishing though with the billions of empty boxes and overflowing paper and the growing pile of stuff that has to go into storage. Kinda hard to downsize...but fun to go "shopping" amongst all our furniture and pick and choose.
On my "accomplished" list: We have successfully moved across the country!
And lastly, a recent favorite pic:
SweetP throwing rocks into a river in Talkeetna. This kid is loving just about anything to do with the water--including splashing around in any puddle of water.
