Now mind you, we booked this trip while we were in Colorado and looking back on it, I think we all wished we had looked into it just a wee bit more. Also, bear in mind that we 1) didn't have Internet at the time in the house and 2) our GPS system doesn't work here (nor does our XM radio...yeah, that's me pouting about both of those things). Anyway, my love and I headed to this awesome local coffee house and used their free wi-fi to take care of some "business". Honestly, its amazing how much stuff you end up taking care of online anymore. Anyway, one of the items needed to be taken care of was looking up the info and directions on how to get to the train station.
Let's just say things didn't go flawlessly--at all. In fact, while already running very uncomfortably late, we unloaded the car, my love went to try and find parking while we were supposed to get checked in. Come to find out, we weren't even in the right location. Don't think the convention center is going to have a train. I still haven't even looked into trying to figure out how and where I got so messed up on my directions/addresses. As soon as I got ahold of my love, he came, we threw everything back into the car and by nothing but a miracle, we stumbled upon the train station. We even managed to get on the train 15 minutes before departure.
Yay!
Then we discovered that the trip we were on wasn't exactly what we were thinking we'd be doing. Turns out the trip we thought would be taking us to Mt. McKinley and Denali National Park wasn't quite doing that but rather taking us to this little town called Talkeetna (pronounced: Tall-keet-na) which is where all those brave enough to attempt climbing up the summit of Mt. McKinley have to check in. Its a totally unique town filled with tons of breweries/restaurants and hostels. It was fun. Then we stayed the night at Mt.McKinley Wilderness Lodge which I think is where we fouled up in thinking we were going to Mt.McKinley. Um...yeah...the lodge was 40 miles away from Mt. McKinley. Its named that though because its supposed to have an awesome view of the mountain. We never saw it. So yeah, lesson learned.
But we made the best of it and the kiddo had a blast playing in puddles. Let's just say that I was thanking my lucky stars for the last minute decision to put the kiddo in her wellies/puddle jumpers/ rain boots. Oh, and lots of spare dry clothes were also quite handy.
Probably played in this puddle for a good solid 20 minutes. She loved it and had so much fun. Also had enough water in her boots that I was able to pour it out once we were done playing in it. Yuck.
My love's beer sampler at the Denali Brewery.
The kiddo crashed and crashed hard. While we were eating lunch she started to lay her head down on the table even though she was eating. I told her she could lay her head down on the jacket next to her if she wanted thinking she might for a second, but not really. Much to all of our surprise, she fell asleep for 2 hours! Never has this kiddo done that.
Refreshed from her nap, we headed over to the lake to check out the view. Threw a few rocks too.
Looking out over the river and looking at a big rafting motor boat.
