Step 2: Mail Bag complete!

You may remember a few weeks back that I was pretty excited that I had finished an actual sewing project for the kiddo for Christmas. I was inspired by Twelve Crafts Till Christmas and made a mailbox for the kiddo because she loves to get the mail every afternoon.

Anyway, her blog has a whole set of tutorials for a whole mail themed gift and the next item on my list was creating a mail bag. The kiddo absolutely loves any and all bags. Just ask her "Amma" (my mom) who bought herself a new purse at the Fossil Outlet last week and before she even walked out of the store with her purchase, the kiddo demanded to have it.

I kinda strayed a bit in two ways in making my bag. The first, I used a different tutorial (by Fishsticks and Fries which was referenced by Twelve Crafts) in making the bag and even then, strayed and went my own way with the bag still. The second, I continued on with my mailbox's theme of applique and put the letters and a bird onto my bag in the same manner.

I was totally tickled and seriously beaming with pride when I showed my love that I'd accomplished making my very first bag. It has most definitely inspired me to make another bag, or two, or three. I'm also getting a little more confident in my sewing machine abilities and wanting to make even more stuff.

Next on my list is to complete the envelopes, stationary, post cards, and stamps--all before the end of the month. Could be tricky since we have a bit of a hairy week.

Oh, and I'm also going to be linking this up to Honeybear Lane's applique contest in honor of National Sewing Month. She actually has a tutorial for how to use your sewing machine to applique. I honestly had no idea a sewing machine was even capable of doing that. Yeah, I'm a total newbie when it comes to sewing machines. :)
