Apple Dumplings

Tonight, I am sitting on the couch watching the Boise St. vs. Orgeon St. game with my love. I also just finished enjoying one of the latest yummy creations to grace our tastebuds.

My parents were in town this past week and we were quite busy with shopping, projects around the house, having issues with getting a tree home, playing at the park, going to the orchards, blowing bubbles, playing many games of Shang-Hi (sp?), etc., which explains why I've been quiet this past week. We had fun, enjoyed each others' company, and the time slipped through our fingers faster than we could blink.

Anyway, my mom loves to bake--much more than me. She loves to make cookies, bread, and other yummy treats so I knew she'd be all for trying out this recipe that I found for Apple Dumplings. I found this recipe in the spring, but held off on actually trying it until fall actually hit. Waiting was so worth it and this is a seriously yummy yummy treat. My love isn't the biggest sweets/dessert person, so he initially opted for just a half portion--but he went back for seconds pretty fast. That totally signifies that it was definitely a hit. Of course I have zero pictures of the yumminess and I won't even go into my silliness in not charging my camera's battery for several days. (I know you're smiling dad...and probably rolling your eyes. ;o) )

So anyway, here's the recipe.

Apple Dumplings

2 medium Granny Smith apples
2 cans crescent rolls
2 sticks butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
cinnamon (for sprinkling)
12 oz. (1 can) Mountain Dew or Sprite (we used Sprite)

Preheat oven to 350. Spray a 9x13 pan with non-stick cooking spray. Peel apples and cut into eighths.

Open a can of crescent roll dough and separate along the perforations. Place an apple segment in the dough and then wrap the dough around the apple. Place in pan. Repeat with remaining apples and dough. Set aside.

In a medium saucepan, melt butter. Add sugar and vanilla, and stir to combine. Pour butter/sugar mixture over the apples and then pour a can of sprite on top of everything. Sprinkle the top with cinnamon and then bake for 40 minutes.

To serve:
Anticipate 2 dumplings per person (at least for the first round) with some of the sauce poured on top and topped with vanilla ice cream. Serious yumminess.

  1. Helen makes those, and they're fantastic! Though that sounds really good right now - we may have to make some of those tomorrow (even though it's still 90 degrees down here!) Hi to all the fam!
