Halloween Festivities

Prepare yourselves for a picture heavy post.

My love has been super busy lately which means he has not been home much. Seriously. He's been home a grand total of 6 days this month. 2 1/2 days for one segment and 3 1/2 for another. But we're learning to go with it and take advantage of that time that we do have.

Knowing he wasn't going to be home in prime pumpkin carving time, we made it a priority to go to the pumpkin patch and pick out our pumpkin last time he was home.

A little uncertain about this whole pumpkin thing.

We're now entering into the phase of wanting to do things herself.

A year ago, the kiddo was totally letting us know about her displeasure of this whole pumpkin carving thing. This year she was really intrigued and wanted to help her daddy.

...although she still didn't want to touch the inside stuff.

Last year, the kiddo was not a happy camper on Halloween. I remember joking that she was a monster without the costume. Unintentionally adding to it, I put her costume on to take her out on her first trick-or-treating experience. Bad move. You can see what she thought about that. She was a flower...a costume that was given to us for free by a neighbor. I didn't blame her. It was in the mid 70s and quite muggy...totally not Halloween weather, nor cute pudgy fleece costume weather.

This year was different, although earlier this week we did have freakishly similar weather with temps in the 80's. But the kiddo did like her costume much more. I was planning on the kiddo being a butterfly this year and even had the tutu completed (I'll post pics of that soon), but with getting sick and just running out of time to finish up the rest, I decided to use her other costume that we were using for other festivities...her ghost costume.

Its a pillowcase dress using, you guessed it, a pillowcase. This costume was practically free, super easy, quick (ie. perfect naptime project), and super cute. Plus, this costume was easy to allow for various layers to be used regarding the weather, which was perfect this year, by the way. Other than the ball fringe trim on the bottom, I already had everything needed.

A little action shot.
We had fun trick-or-treating this year. We went on base last night for the big night of festivities. We hit up just a few houses, all of which were friends which was good considering the kiddo's uncertainties about the whole thing. We went with another fellow friend, who was also without her husband, and her kiddo. Oh, I so wish we'd been able to snag a picture of our little girls holding hands as we walked down the sidewalk. I guess I'll have to just savor that mental picture of cuteness...and hope I can take advantage of the next time it happens if it does.

Of course I somehow missed the memo that our neighborhood was doing their trick-or-treating last night as well. Didn't find out about that until late this afternoon. So now I have Halloween candy totally untouched. Oh well. At least its just a little bit. I guess my love will at least get a chance to eat some when he gets home. ;o)

And while I'm not hugely into Halloween, I do find that having a kiddo does bring back some of the magic of these holidays and the good simple fun that can be had. I hope you all had an enjoyable Halloween!
