A year ago, I wouldn't even have allowed the idea to cross my mind of making the kiddo a tutu let alone a costume. But that's what I did.
I decided that I really really wanted to make the kiddo a tutu. She's starting to get into the dress-up mode and a tutu is simple and easy for her to pull off and on--on her own. Just like her shoes, hats, scarves, and purses that she loves to play with.
I also figured that it would be a great piece for a Halloween costume but still something she'd be able to use after.
Thankfully I decided to do a practice tutu first. Very good thing because I definitely learned the lesson of not winging it and thinking I guesstimated the correct amount of supplies needed. I was very very short. But being a practice one, I went with it anyway and fudged what I needed to.
I also learned a lesson in using cheap thread. As a sweet friend of mine said, "at least it was a cheap lesson to learn!" She's always so good at getting a laugh out of me in her special way.
Making the tutu really wasn't too difficult to do and I managed to get the majority of it completed in the kiddo's afternoon nap.
Playing "kitchen". No worries though, I definitely washed the ice-cream scooper.
As for her Halloween costume, I'm going to wait until then to post pics. I have the second tutu completed (even easier after having the experience) and it looks nothing like the first. Now I just have to finish two more pieces and we'll be ready for the parties the kiddo has lined up for that week.
