Project 52:27 | 4th of July

Photobucket We had a great but totally different 4th of July. Unlike everybody down in the 'lower 48' sweating it out with their heatwave, we spent our day wearing a few additional layers. Yup, no joke, we were wearing jeans--not the cut-off kind, long sleeved tees, a fleece, and rain jackets. The kiddo topped the whole ensemble with her frog rain boots in hopes for a few puddles to splash through.

We enjoyed the high 50degree temps. Okay, I may have complained once about being a little cold and feeling like it was fall and totally not feeling like it was the 4th, but then decided that I ought to enjoy it while I can because 1) this is a place that is so unlike most and we won't be stationed here long and 2) who knows where we'll end up next...could totally be a hot and muggy place in the south...and then I'll long for the cooler climate we have here.

We decided to head out for a walk to a nearby park and bring along a fabulous picnic lunch. Total shock to us, the park was empty, which is an extreme rarity here in Alaska during the summer months. It doesn't matter the weather, if its not actively raining, the park will be crawling with people. I think it may have been a combo of the playground being closed (total bummer for the kiddo), people preparing for later festivities, and what I later learned, a large number of people head down to the town of Seward for the 4th. No matter to us, we totally enjoyed having the park totally to ourselves.

That evening we enjoyed going to our friends' house who hosted a big BBQ filled with great food, great company, lots of kids, and catching up with many I hadn't seen since the summer started. So despite not having my wonderful summer heat and seeing fireworks, it was a really great 4th of July and I absolutely loved that when I would ask SweetPea whose birthday it was she would respond, "Merica's!"

Yeah, yeah, I know I'm even further behind since I haven't posted since May and that was only 1 post.  But, as an update on myself, I'm doing soooo much better now that I'm well into my 2nd trimester.  That 1st trimester was brutal, but its already starting to fade like after you wake up from a bad dream.  I'm working on getting back into regular daily routines and enjoying some time with my family.  Slowly but surely, I'm making my way back to this little ol' blog and project.
