A couple of weeks ago I discovered that not even a mile and a half up the road from our house, we have an Olympic-sized ice skating rink. Not only that, but that its open for recreational ice skating. This was awesome news considering a couple weeks prior to that we had driven 45 minutes to an indoor skating rink to go ice skating only to discover that they had a special event that day (not advertised on their site) which kept us from getting to go. And no, that did not go over well with the kiddo who was super excited about going ice skating that day.

So we decided to go ice skating one recent Saturday just after lunch. Now mind you, there is one downside to the recreational ice skating…the hours of availability which just happen to hit naptime zone (sorta…it appears as though she’s growing out of her naps, so we’re doing “quiet time” most days with an occasional nap). So 12-1:30 is when they’re open and the kiddo usually heads down to her nap/quiet time between 1 and 1:30.

We had fun and we skated a few laps, listened to good music, and watched some kids practicing their hockey skills and figure skating skills (kinda big things here). I hadn’t skated in more than 10 years, so I was definitely a little rusty and secretly applied the tips I heard some of the coaches telling their students to use. My love helped out the kiddo as he far surpasses my skating/rollerblading skills. We also snagged a little walker-type contraption specifically for the kiddos learning to skate which helped a little bit.

Before we knew it, our time was up at the rink as well as with the kiddo. Oh boy, did she let us hear it. Thankfully it was a super short car ride home and the kiddo was out cold in no time for a long nap.
