Have I mentioned that its winter--and that we live in Alaska? I have, haven't I?Well, apparently we chose an interesting year to move to Alaska and experience our first winter. I've been told countless times that this winter is so not normal. We've been slammed with way more snow than normal, we've had crazy cold temps (last month's average high was 2.2F), and just all out "whack-a-doo'd" weather; pretty much the polar-opposite of the rest of the 'lower 48'.
Case in point. Last night we were predicted to get about 3 inches of snow. Okay, no problem, what's a little more? What nobody anticipated was the rain that fell instead.
Yeah, rain.
In February.
Here, in Alaska.
Well, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that rain falling on snow packed streets and temperatures finally getting cold enough to freeze doesn't exactly create the greatest of driving conditions. So schools were canceled, base had delayed reporting, and it was encouraged not to be out and about.
Sweet P needed to get some energy out and she so desperately wanted to ride her bicycle. She loves her little pink princess bicycle. She loves her matching pink helmet and the little bag attached to the handle bars. Anyway, to encourage the "don't let a roadblock stop you" mentality, we didn't let our ice rink of a driveway stop her. We pulled the cars out of the garage, turned up the heat in the garage, and let her have her fun.

Wow! It's a good thing you have heat in your garage! I would have never thought of how important that would be so stuff in your car don't freeze as well. I LOVE how she is wearing short-sleeves instead of a ton of long sleeves and scarves:)
ReplyDeleteI love this! We have had an unusually warm winter! Crazy. Sweet P is growing, growing, growing. I'm trying to get better about commenting. I read...I just don't comment...bad me. :-)
ReplyDeleteSuch a great day I'm sure. From that picture though, you would not have thought it was winter in Alaska. Hahaha! Thanks for linking up this week!
ReplyDeleteAnd how good it was that there was room in the garage for a ride! Wish I had heat in my garage... but i'm working on that. Improvise, adapt, overcome!
