Fifers instead of Football

The Great Pumpkin at Fifer's 2009. (Didn't expect to have 2 Great Pumpkins!)

So back in April, before P left for deployment, he found out the date that tickets for the Air Force v. Navy game would be on sale. Since the game was just a mere few hours away from where we live we were psyched! So of course, while P was gone, I went ahead and purchased them. We were very excited about going to the game and looked forward to it all summer long.

Finally, the week of the game arrived. But of course, we had a bit of a change in plans. We were unable to go to the game as we had no choice but to stay in town. Total big bummer. Fortunately we were able to sell our tickets to some friends who were able to enjoy the game in our absence.

So that left us with a free Saturday. Since the previous Saturday had prevented us from going to Fifer's Harvest Fest as a family, we decided to do that. It was a ton of fun despite the sudden rain storm that only dampened lunch...literally. We enjoyed the hay ride that took us on a tour of the orchards and the kiddo totally loved playing in the hay. After that we went and picked a pumpkin in the pumpkin patch and actually broke it off of the vine.

It was a bummer that we weren't able to make it to the game, but sometimes that happens. Despite that bummer, we were able to enjoy the Saturday as a family. We are very much looking forward to doing more and more things like this as the kiddo gets older. :)

"hmm...what is this stuff?"

"feels kinda different."

Debating on tasting the hay.

Playing in the hay.

Hayride family picture. We may not have been at the game, but we were still supporting Air Force with our garb...even the munchkin was wearing her AF socks!

Laurel tasting the mini-pumpkin.

Another awesome thing of the weekend, P's sister came up for a visit! We were originally all supposed to go to the game together, but...yeah. Anyway, it was so good to see her and visit with her. She even brought us some goodies such as the best ice cream ever that is only available down south...Blue Bell Banana Pudding ice cream! Ohhhh soooooo good. Seriously seriously good.

The kiddo with her Aunt Sam.

She also brought some yummy goodness from Germany (even if one of those items was disguised in mushroom form). Yeah, we're on to you Aunt Sam! Fortunately, I ate the evidence before the kiddo could be persuaded. ;oD

  2. Very cute pictures! Awesome that you finally got some Blue Bell, too - that flavor has been my fave for the past 2 years :)
