With my love being gone frequently for days and weeks (and sometimes months) at a time, I found that I had to make a point in differentiating between weekdays and weekends since I'm a stay-at-home mommy. This little tradition helped in several ways. 1) It made it a "Saturday" thing making it feel like a weekend. 2) It was a great way to have some simple connecting time as a family. 3) When my love isn't there, we still have warm fuzzies surrounding us of when he has been there.
So, with all that in mind, we moved out here to the great state of Alaska to find that donuts just aren't as popular as they were out east. (Coffee shops are a whole other story.) But we discovered last weekend on our first "Donut Saturday" that there doesn't have to be a plethora to choose from if there's one good one--and yes, we found a supremely good one. Oh my goodness is it good. Let's just say that I'm glad its a bit further to get to this one than our old one back east was because it beats the pants off of Dunkin' Donuts. Plus, it totally made it worth dealing with the -25degree temperature mother nature decided to throw at us.

Doesn't Alaska have sour cream donuts or something weird like that?
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of anything like that, but I'll have to look into it!
DeleteI want to steal your Saturday family tradition! I could totally go for a donut right now. My Project 52 post this week is about how motherhood is "mouthy" at www.lucasandmahina.com. Thanks for linking up!
ReplyDelete-25?! EEK! Love how she is just going at that donut! What a great way to make the weekends special! When Jeff is deployed, I celebrate surviving the weekend with a Monday morning Starbucks run. Maybe I should add the random Saturday donut too:)
