The kiddo and I planned to go to an egg hunt on base and shopping for some last minute Easter dress accessories on Saturday morning. Unfortunately, the cough that had been plaguing the munchkin for the last few days decided to shift gears and become a bit worse in sound and frequency coupled with a fever. That meant a trip to the Urgent Care Clinic.
After a few hours, numerous tears shed by the kiddo, a nurse that needs some people skills and more importantly a few lessons on how to approach little kids, and a chest x-ray (seriously SUCKED) we walked out of there with a prescription to treat Bronchitis and the relief that it was NOT pneumonia like the doctor feared.
So already, we knew church was out of the question the following day.
Of course to add to the situation, I started feeling a yucky cold coming on, which decided to hammer me during the night. Ugh.
Figures my love is out of town. He frequently gets to miss out on that kind of excitement.
But all was not lost.
We decorated Easter eggs.
These eggs were inspired by my awesome friend Theresa. Use scrap pieces of tissue paper and make glue water using water and a little bit of elmer's. Easy to do, little mess, easy clean up, and beautiful results. The other eggs were dyed with food coloring, hot water, and vinegar. Honestly, I think the food coloring comes out much more vibrant than those dye kits.
Oh, and those two mainly white eggs with pink scribbles on them? Kiddo came up with her own way to decorate. She discovered pink highlighters and went to town. Really, that ended up being her preferred method. That and whacking them on the counter.
The Easter Bunny stopped by and delivered a little basket for the kiddo and left behind a few eggs hidden around the house.
I "attended" my home church for the Easter Service via online at First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs. (Technology rocks, doesn't it?)
My love called that afternoon and totally brightened my day. It was so good to hear his voice. This is one of the first times we've been the most limited in our means of communication regarding extended trips/deployments. No skype. No time for care packages. Spotty Internet connections. Totally makes me appreciate every phone call that I get from him--even if they are timed.
I made an Easter dinner of ham, potatoes, fabulous Caramelized Green Beans, and a fabulous Taliaferro Tossed Salad ;o) (I used spinach and pecans). Quite tasty and enjoyable even if it was just the two of us sickies.
I hope you all had a memorable Easter--filled with a whole lot less Kleenex. :)
