We had heard some slightly disheartening news about P's expected return home the night before, we were are still dealing with the munchkin's first ear infection, and she was just not in a good mood---okay, she was "Super Miss Cranky Pants".
So by 9:30, after attempting to get the kiddo down for her morning nap and miserably failing...very miserably...I felt as though I had hit a wall. A nice thick concrete wall with steal plates on the other side and just felt like I couldn't do this anymore. A little over-dramatic, I know, but that's what happens sometimes when the big picture is brushing your eye-lashes and you just can't see the real picture in perspective. (This is an analogy that P and I return to every so often.)
So I sent up an exasperated little prayer, took a deep breath, and then I plopped the Munchkin into the Bob and we went for a nice long, relaxing, peaceful walk around the neighborhood. I am ever-so-grateful the rain stopped and the sun peeked through the clouds because that walk was such a turn-around to my day...well, actually that prayer was. But the sun did dry up some tears. Anyway, within a few minutes the kiddo was asleep and I just soaked up listening to the quiet neighborhood with the crickets chirping and seeing all the pretty sights like the flowers and trees in people's yards.
Theresa and the girls.
Maybe a teething munchkin? Ah, who knows!
After our walk and because the weather cooperated, Theresa and her girls and the two of us were able to follow through our plans of going to Fifer's Orchard to pick apples since it was the first day of apple picking season!
Look at all the apples!
Now I'm not a huge apple fan. In fact, I've really just started eating them in the last year or so and even then its a nibble or two. But, with P coming home soon and because it was something fun to do, we were totally game. It was a ton of fun and the number of apples out there was amazing! I picked a few and just loved the fact that they were warm from the sun shining on them and that I was the one that picked them.

Pickin' an apple!

Picking apples!
The kiddo is reaching for an apple tree leaf...she wanted to pick something too. :)
We came home with some other yummy edibles including some A-M-A-Z-I-N-G strawberry ice cream that is made somewhat locally. The cream used is from pasture fed cows meaning this ice cream is 100% all good and natural...and rich. I can only eat a few bites.
My food finds at Fifer's! Yellow wax beans, new potatoes, greenbeans, corn on the cob, and my freshly picked Honey Crisp apples.
Our original plan was to head to Chick-fil-A afterwards with the kiddos, but they were all spent, so we did the drive thru and headed home so lunch could be as quick as could be so all the kiddos could make it to their afternoon nap. The kiddo actually gave me her old 2 hour nap too! So nice!
After several weeks of things being off with both her nap and night time sleeping, this was so nice. As a side note, her not sleeping well ended up being a pretty good sign that something wasn't quite right...in addition to a few other symptoms leading to her diagnosis of an ear infection. This just so happened to be one of those cases of "no fever and she didn't seem sick".
Anyway, during the kiddo's beautiful two hour nap, I got to have a nice long chat with P via Skype where I learned some super promising news which has only been strengthened as of today when we spoke this morning. Let's just say that I'm a super happy camper.
My "Lemon Greenbean Potato Chicken Bake" that needs a major over-haul.
The munchkin and I enjoying a few goldfish (she ate the tails) as we wait for dinner to cook.
So, despite the way the day began, I had an amazing day filled with feeling God's presence during a moment where I needed Him so badly, amazing friends who supported me and offered so many words of encouragement, a fun time picking apples, talking to my love and hearing wonderful news, and a dinner that despite not turning out as well as I had hoped still gave me a chuckle. I capped it all off with a few bites of that ice cream I mentioned and a movie and then fell asleep listening to the thunder and rain, which I will very soon be doing with the arms of my love around me.
